MOUs WITH GUATEMALA, JAMAICA AND THE BAHAMAS

1203. SMT. SHANTA CHHETRI:

Will the Minister of External Affairs be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Minister of State for External Affairs made a visit to Guatemala, Jamaica and the Bahamas, the details thereof along with issues discussed;

(b) whether a declaration for mutual cooperation in various fields between India and Guatemala, Jamaica and the Bahamas was signed during the visit;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the details of the objectives to be achieved thereby; and

(d) the steps taken by Government in pursuance thereto?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
(SHRIMATI MEENAKSHI LEKHI)

(a) to (d) Minister of State for External Affairs Shri V. Muraleedharan visited Guatemala from 4-6 July 2021. Due to unavoidable circumstances, he could not visit Jamaica and the Bahamas.

No MOU was signed during the visit to Guatemala. However, during the visit, MOS called on the President of Guatemala, H.E. Dr. Alejandro Giammattei; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, H.E. Amb. Pedro Brolo Vila, and discussed various bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. MOS participated in a Business event along with the Minister of Economy of Guatemala, H.E. Mr. Tony Malouf, and Vice Foreign Minister H.E. Amb. Shirley Aguilar, and addressed business leaders and Heads of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Guatemala.
